Covering Bruin sports on and off campus
Sports Broadcasting is my specialty and love.
St. Joseph Catholic School's Student Media Program is in charge of managing, producing and hosting live streaming video and live radio coverage of Bruin varsity football, varsity girls basketball and varsity boys basketball.
The Student Media program also produces a monthly live webcast of a sports talk show called "Bruin Talk LIVE." The show began in January 2024 as "Bruin Backcourt." We changed the name this year to "Bruin Talk LIVE" to more accurately reflect the show's content. We webcast live from Sal & Mookie's Madison, a popular Italian and pizza restaurant in Madison near the school campus.
I have been involved in all of our live sports coverage. Let me give you a run-down:
- Varsity Football: I took over as the play-by-play announcer this year for our live-stream webcasts of St. Joe Bruin varsity football. As the Voice of the Bruins, I call all the home games on our live stream webcast on the Bruin News now YouTube Channel. I also head a three-man team of broadcasters that include a color analyst and a statistician.
- Varsity Basketball: I also provide play-by-play announcing for our live-stream webcasts of St. Joe varsity girls and varsity boys basketball games at the Bruin den, our gym. I lead a two-man crew that includes my color analyst.
- Bruin News Now: I serve as sports director for Bruin News Now, our award-winning, student-produced weekly newscast. I oversee the sports portion of our weekly newscast. I sometimes also serve as an on-camera reporter, news anchor, sports anchor and weather anchor.
- Bruin Talk LIVE: I host and produce "Bruin Talk LIVE" our 30 minute-log sports talk show webcast live once a month from Sal & Mookie's -- a local, popular Italian and pizza restaurant near the St. Joe campus. My co-hostand I usually interview coaches and athletes from sports that are active when we webcast our show. We also sometimes invite other guests from other school programs to talk on the show. This is modeled after the college coach's shows aired on local radio during football season.
My sports programs and broadcast efforts have been success. In fact, last year I was a finalist for an award given to live, on-air streaming talent at the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association Convention in Oxford. Our broadcast, which we call "Bruin Sports Radio," was named the best live-streaming program at the same convention.
