First Amendment is all that matters
The role of journalism in our society is to hold people in power accountable, always tell the truth no matter how difficult, and ask the tough questions in our society. With this responsibility, we as journalists tell stories that affect real people, affect communities and can change lives. We are indeed the eyes and ears of the people who don't have access to important people like us.
We as journalists also need to understand that careless reporting and writing also can completely destroy someone's reputation and harm -- or ruin -- our professional reputation. Journalists have an immense responsibility to be fair, upfront and truthful.
Knowing all of this, journalists need to realize we cannot diminish the truth no matter the inconvenience. No matter if your audience is the world, country, school, or even family, journalists have the ability to change the world around us. With this ability journalist need to act according.
With our job, the First Amendment and Freedom of the Press comes an immense responsibility to the U.S. Constitution, to our fellow journalists and to the community that we serve as journalists.
